Furnace, air conditioning and plumbing in Provo

Provo has more converted housing than anywhere else we cover. Single-family houses near the centre that became duplexes, basements that became apartments, and bathrooms and kitchens added years after the plumbing was laid — all on one furnace and one water heater that were never asked about any of it.

Provo questions we get asked

Do you come as far south as Provo?

Yes. Provo is about forty minutes down I-15 from the shop in Sandy — the far end of the area we cover, and we do cover it. Same day depends on what is already on the schedule, and we will be straight with you about it on the phone.

My house was converted into apartments. What usually goes wrong?

Three things, in this order. The water heater is undersized for the number of people now using it. The drain and vent work added for a second kitchen or bathroom was often done to the standard of what drains rather than to code. And one furnace is heating two households who disagree about the thermostat. None of those are exotic. They are just invisible until somebody looks at the house as one system instead of at the room with the complaint.

Why does the hot water run out so fast?

Usually because the tank is sized for the house that used to be there. A forty-gallon tank that was generous for one family in 1975 is not generous for two units sharing it. The options are a larger tank, a second tank, or tankless — which heats water as it passes through so it does not run out, and is genuinely the right answer for a high-demand property even though it is the wrong answer for a small low-demand one.

Does Utah Valley get the same winter inversion?

Utah Valley has its own, and Provo sits in it. Practically the advice is the same as in the Salt Lake valley: in an older converted house, return-side filtration is usually the cheapest comfort and air-quality improvement available, well before anybody starts talking about replacing equipment.

What we see in Provo homes

A city where the plumbing came second

Central Provo has a lot of houses doing a different job from the one they were built for. Every added bathroom, second kitchen and basement unit is a set of connections made into a system that was sized and vented for something smaller. Most of the calls we take here start as one fixture and turn out to be about how the whole thing was put together.

The east bench is a different build

Newer construction up toward the mountains is tighter, better insulated and often on high-efficiency equipment — condensate drains, PVC venting, control boards. Same city on the map, and not the same job in practice.

Forty minutes, and we will not pretend otherwise

Provo is the southern edge of the area. We are not going to claim a van is always ten minutes away when the map says it is not. What we will do is tell you on the phone what the day actually looks like, which is worth more than a promise that breaks at four in the afternoon.

What customers say

Great customer service. Luke is the man! He took the time to talk with me on his birthday and then had my central air up and running the next day.
Taylor BiceAir conditioning
We had our old furnace making a loud noise, apparently the motor had gone bad so we ended up having iRepair install a new furnace and AC with a new system that is much more efficient.

Eusebio came out within a couple hours, found that we had a couple filters that needed replaced and our cool had frozen over.

No heat, no cooling or a leak in Provo?

Call and speak to somebody now. We come out the same day wherever the schedule allows — and if we cannot reach Provo today we will tell you that on the phone rather than after you have waited in.
